Are Unit Studies Right for Us?

Using a unit study based approach has many advantages for some families. Here are a few questions that will help you decide if unit studies may be right for you and your family.

  • Does your family have (and are they willing to spend) the time (and other resources) necessary for the outside preparation and pre-planning required for success at unit studies?

  • Does your family have a "large picture" thinker who is willing to ensure that each of the educational areas are covered sufficiently?

  • Does your family have a "details oriented" person who is willing to plan out each of the individual units in depth?

  • Are your children excited by both the idea and the reality of undertaking a number of hands on projects?

  • Do your children prefer spending a large amount of time working in depth on a single topic?

An ideal unit study family should be able to answer "Yes!" to each of the questions above. If that includes you, you should investigate unit studies by clicking on Additional Resources.
